About George Mason University Korea (www.masonkorea.gmu.edu): 

George Mason University Korea (Mason Korea), opened in spring 2014, is strategically located in Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) in an area known as Songdo, 25 miles from Seoul and 20 minutes from Incheon International Airport. The campus delivers an exceptional living and learning environment for students: It includes world-class teaching facilities with state-of-the-art technology, a performing arts center, dormitories, faculty apartments and guest houses. The degree programs offer students the unique opportunity to spend three years at Mason Korea in Songdo and one year in the U.S. at Mason Fairfax campus, the largest public university in the state of Virginia with over 34,000 students. George Mason University Korea students receive the same degree as all our students from George Mason University. 

Position Information: 

As Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Controller for George Mason University Korea, this position is responsible for the institutional financial operations and budget, purchasing, external contracts, and risk management. This position is responsible for the acquisition, control and expenditure of funds and acts as liaison between the university and outside taxing districts, organizations, and agencies in fiscal matters including coordination and collaboration with the GMU U.S. campus financial team. 

The CFO & Controller manages the development of annual financial plans and monitors expenditures, coordinates the budget process to maintain sound financial conditions and compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and financial standards, and provides critical executive level support and consultation to the executive management team at George Mason University Korea. The CFO & Controller is a member of the executive management team, consults with the Dean of Administration, and reports to the President of George Mason University Korea.   

Minimum Requirements:
 
A CPA certification and a Master's Degree in accounting, finance, tax, or business. 
Demonstrated experience with business and accounting operations at an institution of higher education and/or non-for-profit organization and in international settings.
Demonstrated progressively responsible experience in financial administration in a management capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate financial and operational issues to diverse constituencies, verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated leadership experience in strategic planning, policy development, forecasting, resource analysis, and budgeting to meet unique goals.
Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis and fiscal projections.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and the principles governing internal controls.
Experience in overseeing and implementing policies, procedures, and systems for office operations.
Demonstrated experience with developing electronic reporting tools using databases, spreadsheets, on-line financial systems and other data storage/retrieval systems.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a complex organization with multiple functions and funding sources.
Eligible to reside and work in Korea.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Previous experience in major accounting firm and/or knowledge of LLCs.
Fluency in English and Korean.
Available to start immediately.
